I find that having the full range of needles has been very helpful and you definitely can’t argue about the price. These needles aren’t going to be as smooth as metal needles, and are only slightly rougher than my clover bamboos. While that might make them tough to use with a delicate lace yarn, they are fine for the various sock yarns and worsted weights that I’ve been using. There is some variation in the sharpness of the points, but not enought that it is a problem.
It is nice having full set so I don’t have to run to the store for another size when starting a project, which also means I am more likely to prepare a gauge swatch. To purchase 14 sets of metal needles locally would cost me about $56, for clover bamboos would be at least twice that much. Also, with these on hand I won’t hesitate to share with my 3rd grader for her projects.
Prior to my first set of bamboo DPNs, I used metal and plastic straight needles for 10 years. I know they say to buy the best knitting needles you can afford, but I learned to use DPN’s about 6 mos. ago, and find that these work fine for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to another beginner.

My wife needed a different size needle for a project and I found these for 25 bucks. She’s can knit anything and has hundreds of expensive needles of all sorts, but most are in storage while we are building a house. Long story short… She’s thrilled with them and would buy more bamboo needles if she ever needs a size she doesn’t have.

The larger size needles are not pointed enough. The smaller sizes are fine. I’m looking for a good pencil sharpener to do the job.

I’ve been using these needles for over a year, off and on. I am a long-time, skilled knitter. These needles are great for the price! They are not terribly smooth or “quick” and I do not recommend them for sock knitters–invest in something more high quality. But sizes 4 on up are just fine, and as cheap as they are, it doesn’t break my heart when I lose one. I’ve never had one snap, splinter or in any other way fall apart, and they have become smoother with time and use. Overall I am very pleased with this “pinch hitting” inexpensive set.

Great needles. I use them to knit socks, gloves, etc and they are great. Not too soft or flimsy as others say.
